Young folk are not known for playing badminton in quite the same fashion as they do tennis. This a bit strange as badminston is definitely an easier sport to get into. However badminton is a simpler game for any beginner and with much lighter racket and shuttlecocks instead of hefty balls, it is also less physically demanding at the lower, beginner level. In the grand scheme of things, it is still played on a court, there is a net between the players and play can be between singles, i.e. 1 player at each end of the court, or doubles where there are two players, exactly as in tennis. The lightness of the playing equipment means that without any novices about, play can get up to great speeds in the aim to get your shuttlecock over to the opponent’s side of the court. The aim is to get yours over the next in such a way that the opponent fails to reach it and the point is awarded to the server.
The player serving must serve the shuttlecock over the net and in such a way as to land in the correct side of the opponents court and once the serve has crossed the net (no hitting the net) with the opponent having to hit the shuttlecock in the most appropriate manner to win a point or gain tactical advantage.
